That’s it, September is here, the time has come to return from holiday and get back on the road to school or work but that’s no reason to get depressed because the rich cultural news of the autumn is going to make you love September in Paris.
Between the new exhibitions, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) and the crazy atmosphere of the Olympic Games, there are plenty of great things to discover in Paris’s cultural venues. So here are 5 cultural news items that will make you love the back-to-school season:
The musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac is getting a new sound trail!
If you haven’t been to the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac in a while, it’s time to go back! From 17 September, the museum will be introducing visitors to a new, never-before-seen sound trail.
More than 120 relays dotted around the permanent tour will broadcast sounds linked to the objects on display: stories, spoken and sung voices, urban or natural soundscapes… to give visitors a better understanding of the collections and the arts and civilisations of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas.
Broadcast in such a way as to create a real soundscape, this system developed by the museum’s scientific teams with sound engineers, composers and ethnography specialists, will help to make the visitor experience more immersive and lively.
The European Heritage Days are back
On 21 and 22 September, the European Heritage Days will be making a comeback. During these two days, many institutions usually closed to the public will open their doors to you, most of the time free of charge.

Olympic and Paralympic Games go into overtime
After the fervour generated by the Olympic and Paralympic Games, a number of exhibitions linked to sport and the Games are helping to prolong the Games atmosphere.

The back-to-school period is always synonymous with new exhibitions. In particular, you’ll be able to discover :
- Surrealism : an exhibition at the Centre Pompidou celebrating 100 years since the birth of this artistic movement born in 1924 with the publication of André Breton’s founding Manifesto – from 4 September to 13 January 2025
- Caillebotte, Peintre les hommes : from October 8, the Musée d’Orsay will be devoting an exhibition to Gustave Caillebotte and particularly to male figures and portraits of men. – Until 19 January 2025
- Revisiting Watteau : following the restoration of ” Pierrot “, one of Watteau’s masterpieces, the Musée du Louvre will shortly be presenting an exhibition-dossier on this enigmatic painting. – From 16 October to 3 February 2025
The Jacquemart-André museum reopens
Closed for a year for works, the Jacquemart-André museum will welcome the public back from 6 September. Among the new features: the painted ceiling by Giambattista Tiepolo and the staircase have been restored, the outdoor area has been planted as it was when it was built at the end of the 19th century, and a new exhibition devoted to Rome’s Galerie Borghèse will be presented.
