| About

Once again this summer, Rennes (France) vibrates to the rhythm of contemporary art. Exporama invites us to rediscover the city from a cultural and artistic angle thanks to a great cycle of events presented in the city’s museums, art galleries and also in the street.

Fil rouge de cette quatrième édition : l’art urbain, la photographie et le sport. An eclectic and accessible program, totally free for under-26s. The program is vast, spanning dozens of venues, but here are 5 favorites to give you an overview.

Aérosol. A history of graffiti, at the Musée des Beaux-Arts

Have you ever wondered how the art of graffiti came to be on our streets ? The Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rennes traces the history of this form of artistic expression born in the 1960s.

From the birth of the first spray-paint cans to their appropriation by artists, the exhibition explores the emergence of graffiti in France and abroad, with works by leading artists such as Miss.Tic, Jef Aérosol, Futura2000, Blitz and Blek le rat.

Raymond Depardon and Kamel Daoud, Son œil dans ma main, Algérie 1961 et 2019, at Champs Libres (musée de Bretagne)

A few steps from the train station, at Champs Libres, the Musée de Bretagne, an exhibition crosses the talent of Raymond Depardon with that of writer Kamel Daoud.

It features one of Raymond Depardon’s very first photo reports from Algeria in 1961, before independence, and then, years later, in 2019, when he returns after befriending writer Kamel Daoud. An opportunity to see the country in two eras.

Le Salon des refusé.es at La Criée

La Criée, Centre d’art contemporain, invites Danish artist Rasmus Myrup to present his first solo exhibition in France.

With Le Salon des refusé.es, he presents some twenty sculptures, strange characters created from salvaged materials that interrogate normativity and the freedom to be. Remember to consult the visitor’s booklet when you go to see this installation: each character has a story invented by the artist!

The field of possibilities, by Vincent Mauger

In the Parc du Thabor, Vincent Mauger presents a monumental sculpture created from several tons of terracotta bricks. With his sculptures, Vincent Mauger explores the artistic potential of materials usually reserved for construction.

This astonishing sculpture, which looks like it came straight out of a 3D printer, can be seen here in the open air – and it’s free!

M.U.R

M.U.R (Modulable, Urbain et Réactif) is an association based in Rennes that takes its inspiration from billboard advertising techniques to promote art. In several locations around the city, artists create works on the M.U.R, an opportunity to also spark exchanges between residents and artists.

Rue Vasselot, for example, you can see a work by Jef Aérosol. From September 8, JonOne will create a new work in the same location.
