Contrary to what one might think, the Cité du Vin isn’t just for connoisseurs. You can visit simply out of curiosity and have a wonderful time. Everything is designed to be easy to understand, even if you’re new to the subject. The permanent exhibition explains the basics in a simple and engaging way, without any complicated jargon.

Above all, there is no encouragement to drink alcohol. The tour focuses primarily on wine culture: its history, the landscapes, the various professions in the wine industry, and the traditions associated with it in different countries. You can therefore enjoy the experience without needing to be an expert.

The tour can be taken in either direction and at your own pace: you’ll learn what a vineyard is and how grapes grow. Then you’ll explore the different stages of winemaking.
